Slower travel. A deeper Kyoto.Kyoto with space to feel it.
Private days shaped around history, local life, beautiful photographs and the quiet details that make Kyoto stay with you.

Not a checklist.
A real day in Kyoto.
Some Kyoto days should begin before the city wakes. Others should slow down for tea, a riverside pause, a small shrine or one last photograph before sunset.
I build each experience around timing, atmosphere and the people I am guiding. The plan matters. The feeling matters more.
Six ways into Kyoto.
Each experience has its own pace and point of view. Choose one that feels right, or ask me to shape a private day around you.

Kyoto: Arashiyama Bamboo Forest at First Light
See Arashiyama before the day gathers speed. Walk through bamboo, hear the stories behind this historic district and finish with one included highlight of your choice.

Kyoto West to East
Start among the bamboo in western Kyoto, move through shogun history and Nishiki Market, then enter the old streets and flower districts of Gion.

Kyoto in Kimono
Dress in kimono, experience Japanese tea and walk through the old capital with a private guide and photographer. Relax into the moment and leave with photographs that feel like your Kyoto.

Geisha Shamisen Boat & Kyoto Sake
Spend an intimate hour on the water with shamisen, Kyoto sake and a cultural atmosphere that feels far removed from ordinary sightseeing.

Taiko Performance & Nishiki Market
Feel the force and rhythm of traditional Japanese taiko, then step into Nishiki Market to explore the ingredients, snacks and everyday food culture behind Kyoto cuisine.
“A good Kyoto day leaves room for something you did not plan.”
Timing matters. Stories matter. So do the pauses, the unexpected conversation and the small place you would have walked past alone.
Simple to reserve. Clear from the start.
First Light begins with an availability check. For every other experience, you can reserve with a ¥10,000 deposit or pay the confirmed total in full through Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe and are never stored on this website.
Cancel 7 or more calendar days before the scheduled tour start time for a full refund. Cancellations made fewer than 7 calendar days before the scheduled start time are non refundable. This applies to both deposits and full payments. If KYOTO BEN cancels a confirmed experience, the affected payment is refunded in full.

Local context changes the way Kyoto feels.
I'm Ben, a Kyoto-based private guide who calls Arashiyama home, one of the most beautiful corners of the city. I live here with my family, my daughter, and our dog, surrounded by the mountains, temples and quiet streets that first made me fall in love with Kyoto. When I'm not guiding, you'll usually find me reading history, listening to traditional music, searching for something good to eat, or simply noticing the small details of everyday Kyoto life.
KYOTO BEN
Independent sole proprietor based in Kyoto, Japan. Tour services are provided under the trade name KYOTO BEN. Secure online card payments are processed by Stripe.
